A Good Stay!

We've had the sheep a week.  Today we had a sheep rodeo.  I was moving their portable grazing pen and overestimated my abilities of keeping them in the corner.  They headed for the hills!

Our dogs know very little about the sheep.  We've taken the dogs along to do sheep chores and let them watch but have discouraged their help as of yet.  The sheep would be a lot of fun to play with needlessly, so we want the dogs to understand that moving sheep is *work* not *play*.  Anyway, the sheep were headed for the hills.  Blondie is in heat and we don't want Shooter pups at this point, so Blondie was put up in the house and I couldn't put Shooter in there.  So as the sheep were bolting through the alfalfa field with Dan hot on their heels, I told Shooter to "STAY".  I seriously doubted that he would because the situation was so dire and Shooter is always just *sure* that we are blundering idiots and can't do anything without him.  To my delight, Shooter stayed home and waited for us for a good hour, watching us chase the sheep through our field, the neighbors field, through 300 heifers and to the creek over and over again.

Never underestimate the need for a good stay.
