Hi Elaine,

Mollie named our puppy Jazmine and we all call her Jazzy. I did just discover a piece for jazz flute and piano called “Jazzy” so it is also the name of a song!!

As for this little feisty, happy pup: we all love her so much already! She is a joy. She only piddled 3 times in the house since she came, and really that was our fault, losing track of the time. She comes racing to us when called, much of the time. Mollie has done some clicker training with her for sit, down and stand, and a puppy class starts nearby in 2 weeks. She chews, chews, chews, but is very responsive to a “eh-eh” sound we make when it is something she’s not supposed to get into. I love her attentive watching of the sheep and the chickens, as shown in the picture.

Okay, so this morning I ran the sheep out to a fenced area and thought Jazzy was occupied digging, but she bolted out and did her first herding by my mistake. Wow! She really knew what to do, but I know the farm dog handbook says not to push puppies into it. She hasn’t even learned about the electric fence yet. We’re just starting to put the sheep out, and have been putting her on a cable where she can watch us when we run the sheep. I kind of feel that we need to be confident with her COME, STAY, SIT etc. before she gets into herding. Any advice on this? I have to admit it was a thrill to see her so instinctively round up the sheep.

Gotta take Mollie to a dance performance.
